i have one more thing to tick on my to-do-list... it has always been one of my dreams to go scuba diving in the great barrier reef - been there, done that and im definitely gonna do it again... =)
so i just got back from that two day trip, and im bloody exhausted cause it was absolutely wicked! shortly after we started out from the harbour of cairs we already had a few dolphins swimming round the front of the boat, doing stunts and flips for our amusement...
ill probably start with the people... we were 15 passengers in total - including the five members of the crew... especially the crew were wicked! bloody retards tryin gto scare you with stories (which worked, by the way!) and keeping things going, having a laugh with you...
the weather as been absolutely stunning too. it was nice and cool on the boat - whereas it was scorching in cairns because the breeze doesnt actually reach the mainland. the sea was pretty calm, but still rough enough to make me having to stay on deck ALL the time... i really enjoyed being at the front of the vessel, though... it was like a rollercoaster ride... =) especially today... and then the captain of the boat does a nice dip into a huge wave so its kinda like the niagra falls - the waters just coming from below you... and then its always nice to pull a leo at the very front of the boat...
anyways, I WENT DIVING!!! YEEEEEEIII!!! it was awesome! stunning! breathtaking! amazing - and i could go on forever!!! absolutely beautiful! i did 4 dives in total... and enjoyed it immensely, as you can imagine. at first, i have to say, i was actually a bit disappointed by the reef, because the reef itself isnt as colourful as i had expected (at least in our colour spectrum)... but then again, the colours of the fish were so vivid, that it made it bloody picturesque! on my very first dive i found nemo!!! yipeeee! another tick on the list... =)
what i was really amazed about, is how your vision is so restricted when diving... i always thought youd have this great view all around you...but, with wearing the mask, its basically like swimming in an aquarium... you can see just as much as if you were standing in front of one: the same square vision... i was always thinking 'if a shark approached me right now, i would never see him!' - yikes! and another thing that i didnt expect was the sound of your breathing... you can hear yourself taking each and every breath and it really just sounds like 'luke, i am your father!'
this morning there was a beautiful start into the day, cause the first thing we did (those who wanted to) was a dive at 7 am - before breakfast, before tea or coffee... that really wakes you up! a bit chilly after half an hour in the water, but still gorgeous! =) unfortunately i didnt get to swim with a sea turtle, but we at least saw a few of them from aboard the boat - when they break the surface to get air... beautiful creatures! majestic, i would say... =)
since you always get really hungry after any activity - especially diving - they provided all the food and it was mua!!! every single meal was to die for! the kitchen on board was really well equipped and they cooked some really fancy meals - so i really was in heaven - and didnt even have to do any dishes! =)
before we went to bed last night the captain got his guitar and we sang heaps of songs, drank a few beers or a coke... and just chilled, while watching an absolutely beautiful sunset... WOW!!! beautiful atmosphere!
last but not least, i have to tell you about my encounter with the bat fish (dreee dreee dreee - scary music!)... everyone was already back from their dive or snorcheling and i was still in the water - just swimming around and jumping from the roof of the boat heaps of times... the captain of the boat asked me if i was hyper!? no idea where he got that from! =) anyways, i was in the water when this HUGE fish (considering the fact that i only had my mask and snorchel and not even a wet suit) approached me under water... bout 40x30 cm! its one of the fish on the photos... black/white/yellow striped... so, anyways, it came towards me and at first i swam back to the boat - really quickly! i know it wouldnt do any harm, but its still creepy! after a while, however, i kinda got used to them (suddenly there were like 5) and i dared go swim with them... doing that for a couple of minutes they got used to me as well... i could even touch them - so smooth! i was so surprised that they didnt mind my touch... thuogh i only touched them after one of them actually came and nibbled my finger, after which i screamed, of course, and scared them away for a minute or two... =) in total i was swimming with them for about half an hour maybe a bit longer... it was absolutely amazing! at one point there were about 10 of the big fish and another 50 of a diffrent kind - me in the very centre! WOW! =)at one point the passengers if the boat started feeding them as well, and it was amazing to watch and be in the middle of it (dont worry, not dangerous at all)... anyways, to get to the point and finish this long post off for you guys, at the very end (i had enough after that!) this cheeky fish came up to me out of the depth and that bloody bastard bit my toe! actually BIT MY TOE!!! it wasnt really painful, but still - outch! and, of course, i shreeked because i didnt really expect it and was totally taken aback...
so, i hope you enjoyed sharing one of my (long) dreams with me... =)
